You and I will discuss your issues, wants and needs via a phone conversation or email. Through the give-and-take of that conversation, we will mutually decide if I can help you. If that's the case, I'll give you a cost and time estimate. If you decide to move forward, I'll also set up an appointment date to make the transformation you're dreaming of.

Before I arrive, you should determine which furniture pieces and accessories need to stay in the room and which ones are expendable or can be moved elsewhere in your home.

When I arrive on the workday in my "moving clothes", I'll analyze the room's architecture, take measurements, and have a further discussion with you about your lifestyle, room usage, preferences and goals. With your permission, I'll take some "before" pictures and tour the rest of your home to "shop" for other possible furniture and accessories that might enhance the arrangement.

I'll create a suggested floor plan and share it with you before we begin work to make sure it's something that meets your needs.

At this point, you can choose to leave (and wait for my call when I'm done) or stay and participate in the project. I always invite and encourage clients to stay in the home so you can learn the basic design concepts as we go along and understand the reasons for some of my selections. Perhaps you can apply some of those concepts to other rooms in your home in the future. I may also need to ask permission to possibly move other items in or out of the redesign room.

Now the real work begins! We carefully move everything (except some very large items) out of the room. We'll need a table or other large, flat surface to gather accessories and lamps. First, we determine the placement of furniture, trying various arrangements to highlight any architectural features or accommodate traffic patterns. Next, we place rugs, tables and lamps to enhance the basic design placement of the larger furniture pieces. Lastly, we bring in the accessories and wall pieces, using more design concepts to arrange them in dramatic groupings to make the room complete.

My goal is to always work solely with what you already own, but occasionally there is a need to add a few additional pieces to give the room that polished look you're after. If that's the case, I'll give you a shopping list of what's needed in what sizes and colors and even suggest some good stores where you can find them. If you would prefer, I also offer shopping services (with and without you). I have an extensive list of professional craftsmen who can paint, wallpaper, refinish furniture, reupholster…and more, if any of these services are needed.

I work very hard to make sure you are 100% satisfied with the completed rearrangement of your space. Throughout the process and when completed, I want you to be delighted with the transformation. If we're doing anything that you just don't like, please let me know. Don't worry about hurting my feelings-it's your house and I want it to work for you. If you're not satisfied, we'll work on it until you are or you pay nothing. That's what my 100% satisfaction guarantee is all about! I'll stay and make adjustments until you're happy while I'm in your home. There's absolutely no risk to you. When the room is complete, I take some "After" photos. I'll also ask you for a brief testimonial of your own-the good, the great and the otherwise- while I take those photos, to help me provide the best customer service possible. Don't be surprised if I contact you with additional ideas in the days and weeks after our time together. The creative juices don't just shut down when I leave your home! I'll ask you for payment in cash or a money order made payable to "Dr. Design" (no personal checks, please). I offer seniors (55+) and military families a 10% discount.

Services for those moving into a new home (still unpacking), newly blended families or those who are downsizing are slightly different and customized to the needs of each client. Please call for more details.

I ask that only residents of the home may be present during the redesign process. Please don't invite friends, relatives, neighbors or other acquaintances to your home while the transformation takes place. The distraction only serves to slow us down in what we can accomplish for you and, while I are more than happy to teach you the design concepts I use for proper arrangement of your furnishings, this in not to be viewed as an opportunity for a free seminar on design for others. I occasionally teach classes at Lane Community College or the local adult school (I can give you that information) or I can do a presentation for you and your friends in your home at another time.
