Hello & Welcome!
I'm Sandy Hare, owner and lead designer for Dr. Design Home Staging and Redesign. In this section of our website you'll learn a little more about me and my background as well as a detailed description and listing of my services and fees. But first, I thought you might be interested in what some of my clients and mentor have to say:
#1: Mentor
Hi Sandy,
Your portfolio arrived safely and I popped the CD in right away to preview your work. Girl! You are fantastic!!! In all the years I have offered a certification program, I have only bypassed the process twice before for outstanding work. You make the 3rd person. Some people don't get it at all, even after taking my course. They fail or give up. Some people are pretty good; others very good. Then there are the rare individuals who are superior!
You are among the rare few.
I don't even have to see more or even read the fine materials you submitted (but I will).
It gives me great pleasure to inform you that you have passed the certification process with flying colors and are now officially a CSS/CRS designer. You should be very proud of yourself. We are the only company that demands passage of an exam and submission of a portfolio. So only the dedicated (and the few) survive. We like it that way. While other companies rubber stamp people as "certified" merely for paying a fee or attending a brief seminar, we force people to PROVE they have the talent and knowledge. You have proved your case in the most outstanding way. Congratulations!!! It is a great pleasure to have been part of the process and I look forward to much more great design from you.
Warm regards,
Barbara Jennings

#2: Redesign Consultation
We had a large living room that had become a storage area right at our front door! I wanted a comfortable, inviting space to welcome friends and entertain, but had no idea where to start. Sandy came in with such a positive and non-judgmental attitude; her intuition, skill and professionalism were evident right away! She looked through the house and found treasures that I hadn't even thought of using and identified some "signature pieces" through our home to highlight a new design.
Shortly after her visit, she gave us three different floor plans for the living room using our existing furniture. She even created floor plans for the family room, the dining room and master bedroom, all incorporating our existing furniture. After being stuck and frustrated, this was liberating! My husband and I made the suggested changes in the dining room immediately, and he said, "This is ‘us'!" We've moved on to the other rooms and the transformation is amazing! We now have a home that is welcoming, put-together and most importantly, reflects who we are. It can be difficult to imagine someone coming in to help with a personal venture such as designing and decorating the living spaces of one's home, but Sandy understood our tastes and gave us options that worked well for us and our lifestyle. We love the results! Thank you, Sandy!

#3: Staging turned into Redesign
It all started with the entertainment unit...
My husband and I asked Sandy Hare to help us stage our house for sale because we were feeling cramped and, despite some major remodeling, dissatisfied with it. From beginning to end, Sandy was professional and helpful. She surveyed our home, discussed changes in floor plans and other detailed suggestions for improvements in every room. We decided on a budget and, utilizing our existing items and space in unique ways, she did a great job of staging our home to appeal to potential buyers. At that point, we all agreed that the entertainment unit needed to be replaced or removed. Based on her advice and guidance, we purchased a new one that we could take with us when we moved. To our surprise, it was the missing piece we needed to bring the whole new arrangement of the living room/dining room/kitchen together! We fell in love with our home all over again and decided NOT to sell! Because my husband and I both work full-time and more, Sandy helped us with every step -- shopping, decorating, even hanging pictures and assembling shelves where space was an issue. This became an exciting, fun-filled collaboration, rather than a painstaking process. In the end, Sandy transformed our cluttered, drab house into an inviting, warm, welcoming living space. We're the envy of all our friends and family! Thanks to Sandy's suggestions, eye for detail and beauty, and special touches, we're now extremely proud of our home. We wanted her to stage our house so we could sell it -- she sold US on it instead.

#4: A Return Client
Living in a small space, I was unable to develop the personality I wanted for the dining room/living room space of my town home. Sandy came in, did some simple rearranging of my furniture and used a unique drapery treatment to "separate" the spaces (She calls it "invisible walls"). I've received nothing but rave reviews from all of my guests. I can't say "thank you" enough for a job so well done to create a distinctive, yet comfortable room.

Moving to a larger home, I was once again faced with a dilemma..how do I arrange my furniture and pictures? What colors go on those dreadful white walls, how do I make everything fit..the list was overwhelming! This time I knew just what to do. A quick phone call later and Dr. Design was there to guide me flawlessly through the process in my whole house. Friends and family don't recognize the home I now live in from its original, move-in condition. Through paint, furniture arrangement, and unique ways to group my art collection and accessories, it's truly a lovely place to live! Sandy's also a great teacher and generous with her knowledge of decorating. She taught me several tips I can use in the future. Again, THANK YOU Sandy!!!

#5: Staging
Dear Sandy,
I've watched enough HGTV to know that staged homes sell faster and, in the slow real estate market we were facing, I knew something had to be done before we put our house on the market! My husband was skeptical, but you came in and created a house that any homebuyer could envision as his own. By simply rearranging some of the furnishings, improving wall grouping placements, eliminating clutter (and finding other ways to store all my four-year-old's toys), and making everything more spacious, I'm proud to say our house is getting lots of real estate traffic. It's not sold yet, but I'm confident it will be soon, and the other houses for sale in the neighborhood are still reducing their prices and crossing their fingers! Thanks for a great job! Since we'll be moving to another home in the same area, I'll call you when we move so we get it done right the first time!

Eugene, OR
Meet Dr. Design
I'm Sandy Hare and I'm new to the Eugene area, but I'm certainly not new to the field of home staging and redesign. I think I've been doing it all my life! As the oldest of five children, I was always trying to reorganize, rearrange and keep a handle on the clutter of five kids with only six years separating them! When I became a teacher, it only got worse. As I would be teaching a lesson, a better way to arrange things in the classroom to improve functionality would immerge in my head. Before you knew it, I was asking students to give up their recess to help me make the transformation in 15 minutes! I guess I just can't help myself!
But how did all that bring me to this business and to the Eugene area? I suspect it’s a bit of the Tao philosophy of Yin-Yang, that equilibrium or balance of forces in our lives. For 37 years I pursued the intellectual side of me through my work as a teacher (grades K-8 and college), an elementary principal and an assistant superintendent of instruction. Along the way, I earned a doctorate in educational leadership -- hence the business name of "Dr. Design." I really am a doctor! Although the field of education is intensive work, I still needed to nourish that creative side of me, so I redecorated my own home (frequently) and helped friends do theirs. Through the years, my outgoing nature, linked with a sensitivity for others and a strong sense of intuition has given me confidence in all I pursue. The thread that seemed to link the two sides of me was a passion for solving problems at a practical level and helping people lead more productive lives. When I retired early from education two years ago, I knew I wanted to pursue my avocation in a full-fledged business, which led me to seek more formalized training and the establishment of Dr. Design Home Staging and Redesign. Now I can put all those skills to use in new and exciting ways -- organization, bargain hunting, multitasking, sewing, painting, paperhanging, gardening...you need them all in this business!
I have been extensively trained in both home staging and redesign by Barbara Jennings, one of the foremost authorities in the field since 1986. Through her, I'm proud to be a Certified Staging Specialist (CSS) and a Certified Redesign Specialist (CRS). This professional designation reflects a standard of excellence that cannot be purchased, but rather, earned through extensive reading, study and testing (demonstration of knowledge -- "book learnin'" as my father called it) in addition to a demanding protocol of actual work in both redesign and home staging (application of learning in real situations). It is a comprehensive program that includes the concepts of arranging furniture and accessories, preparing a home for sale, ethics, people skills, an understanding of real estate and business management. It has been great formal training to add to my intuitive sense of decorating style. I am also a proud member of the Real Estate Staging Association (RESA), a nationwide professional organization of home stagers who network for learning, support and buying power to help their clients.
That Yin-Yang philosophy also applies to having balance in one's life so I enjoy a wide variety of other activities when I'm not working. These include reading, knitting, college football and golf (Go Ducks!), gardening, sewing and most recently, golf.
I volunteer for the First Tee Program of Willamette Valley (www.thefirstteewillamettevalley.org) that uses the game of golf to teach children, ages 7-17, valuable life skills. Their efforts have encouraged me to take up the sport too. What a hoot! It’s obvious I have a LOT to learn!
Much of my time is devoted to my family, especially my wonderful grandchildren, Brady-4 and Tristan-almost 3. Grandkids are truly our reward for doing a good job of raising their parents!
